Bonjour Càphê Amsterdam: the finest flavours of Vietnam can now be found in the Jordaan >> (2024)

Next to the always equally popular Saint-Jean, there’s yet another fantastic hotspot, which won’t remain unnoticed on TikTok for long, we reckon. Bonjour Càphê Amsterdam has been impressive since December with all the unique offerings Vietnam has to offer: from rice wine to good coffee, bánh mì, and a good number of traditional classics with a twist.

Bonjour Càphê Amsterdam transports you momentarily to authentic Vietnam

A Vietnamese hotspot in the heart of the Jordaan that’s something we haven’t seen yet! Get acquainted with the unique flavours of Bonjour Càphê Amsterdam – which momentarily transport you to Vietnam. Owner Kevin Le derived the name from his childhood: he always called his grandma “My Bonjour”; thus, the establishment’s name was quickly found. Càphê means coffee, the beverage that forms the foundation of this coffee shop with Vietnamese fusion dishes. The owner is an enormous coffee enthusiast who became a true connoisseur. In his homeland, he learned everything about it, and once in Europe, he visited Scandinavia to learn about their coffee culture.

Owner Kevin wants to share his knowledge with others. It’s one of the reasons why he recently started organizing a different workshop every Wednesday. From Vietnamese cooking workshops to coffee ceremonies and intuitive cooking.

Menu Bonjour Càphê

Bonjour Càphê Amsterdam serves various lunch dishes, with the contemporary bánh mì being the most popular. On Instagram, you can see Kevin (who himself is in the kitchen) preparing a Vietnamese baguette with miso eggplant and pickled cucumber. Trust us; it will make you hungry instantly. Bonjour hosts their Brunch Club every Sunday, featuring a different weekly theme. Previous themes included Saigon Street Food Fiesta and the Lunar New Year Celebration. The menu remains a secret until 24 hours in advance.

From Wednesday to Saturday, Bonjour is open for dinner. Join one of the two shifts at 6:00 pm for early birds and at 8:30 pm for night owls. In the evening, Kevin serves dishes with a story, such as chua – a noodle soup – from his childhood, following his mother’s recipe. His signature soup is part of an extensive tasting menu of eight courses. The dishes are served ‘classroom style’ in the small venue, which only accommodates eight people. This creates an intimate atmosphere. Not only because of the nostalgic dishes but also because you can easily connect with other guests at Bonjour. It’s a unique night out where, besides good food and matching wines (rice wine and Czech wines), connection is key.
